High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a relatively new cosmetic treatment for skin tightening that some consider a noninvasive and painless replacement for facelifts.

The HIFU energy penetrates much deeper than laser and RF energy in order to achieve superior tissue tightening and longer-lasting results by selectively targeting the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). Thermal injury is caused by these ultrasound waves that penetrate deeper into the tissues than the epidermis, focus at a single point in the adipose tissue, and penetrate deeper into the tissues.

In the first few months following your HIFU treatment, you’ll see slight plumping, but the best results will come after 2 to 3 months. Collagen will continue to be produced for the next 6 months after the initial treatment.
